The Ombudsperson’s Office for Transitional Justice (OTJ) will begin closed hearings in February on alleged human rights violations, inhuman treatment and torture in Maldives’ prisons that occurred from 01 January 1953 to 17 November 2018.
The OTJ said in an announcement today that hearings will be held from February 26, 2023 to March 4, 2023 to take statements from prisoners in Maafushi Prison. In addition, further hearings are scheduled to be held in Malé City. A date for the Malé hearings will be announced later, the OTJ said.
Information on the hearings will be made public through the OTJ’s website and social media platforms.
