OTJ Conducts Awareness Session for Local Councils
The Ombudsperson’s Office for Transitional Justice (OTJ) conducted an awareness session for certain city, atoll and island councils as part of the awareness sessions targeting the institutions involved in the submitted cases to the office.
The main objectives of this session include clarifying the objectives and responsibilities of the OTJ, identifying institutional measures to achieve the objectives and protecting interests, and detailing the processes involved in deciding cases within the jurisdiction of the OTJ under the law. The workshop also briefly highlighted the challenges and obstacles faced by the investigators and discussed the progress of the peace process and the need for institutional assistance and cooperation.
The OTJ aims to conduct similar programs in the future to familiarize the public and government institutions with the work of OTJ.
