Two staff from the Ombudsperson’s Office for Transitional Justice (OTJ) have participated in a webinar entitled “Prevention and Guarantees of Non-Recurrence – The Role of the Transitional Justice Office” organized by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).
The webinar was conducted by ICTJ to address efforts to reduce systematic deprivation of human rights and inhuman treatment in different eras and prevent the recurrence of such practices.
The session taught participants the importance of the role of transitional justice in resolving disputes, preventing future human rights abuses, strengthening the rule of law, respecting human rights, and contributing to maintaining peace and development and preventing such incidents from happening again. It found that community interventions, women empowerment and adherence to the protection of the law are necessary to ensure that such practices are not repeated.
The webinar also focused on history education and reforms in victim support and counseling, cultural and artistic initiatives, and recommendations based on remembering and archiving events for the younger generation to learn from. The webinar was conducted from 14 March 2022 to 18 March 2022. Senior Investigator, Uza. Mariyam Saeed and Investigator, Mohammed Ibrahim participated in the webinar.
